Bjorn Again

The Bjorn has been indispensable in our household since Claudia's arrival--a real godsend. When nothing seems to soothe lil Claudsie, I pop her in this Swedish marvel and she feels right at home. Just like she was Bjorn on the grass at Wimbledon. This is a method I used before we purchased the Bjorn:Oh and speaking of Wimbledon, just thought I'd post this again:

Get Butt Naked! Fun things to do bare-assed

I know--really juvenile--but the way Chuck Willery accentuates his name really elevates this to high comedy.

Sting made me cry today

My folks came by for a visit with a stack of beat-up LPs that had been collecting dust in their crawl space for 30 years. There was Saxon's Power and the Glory, The FIXX's entire catalogue, that Suzanne Vega record with "Luka" on it, Starship's Knee-deep in the Hoopla; I could continue but I think you get the picture--not too many keepers. I did notice an old Sting album from 1987--Nothing Like the Sun. I remember he did a great version of Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing" on that record. So I'm hanging out with my baby in her Baby Bjorn and I start playing this song. Here's the chorus:

When I’m sad she comes to me
with a thousand smiles
she gives to me free

I look down at Claudia and she's smiling and having a great time and I realize she's my "little wing" that Sting is singing about! Always ready with a smile to lift me up and melt my heart at the same time. And then it hit me like a ton of bricks. Yup--the crying game. I wasn't expecting fatherhood to be so emotional.

Not connecting

Not Connecting is a new feature at the nightcap. I will highlight different ads and graphics that don't work. This one's
from an ad that I saw on the back of the bus this morning. This was put out by SFEnvironment--a non-profit organization run by the City and County of San Francisco. It's supposed to clarify the division of recyclables--which items go in the green cart and which go in the blue. Is that clear at first glance? I remember driving and seeing this ad and just wondering what in the hell the message was.

Kinda reminds me of this piece I read recently on Shepherd Fairey. I had always wondered what the idea was behind his OBEY campaign. This snippet from SFGate breaks it down here:

...he first earned notoriety in the late '80s for his obtuse "obey" stickers that featured a mug shot of the late wrestler Andre the Giant. Fairey has called the stickers "an experiment in phenomenology," one in which he hoped viewers would be so confounded by the absurdity of the image they would question other visual messages they come across in their daily lives.

Exclusives

Today was a big day on Today. Viewers were treated not only to an exclusive one-on-one with Jermaine Jackson at Neverland but also to the first interview with Billy Mays's best friend and business partner, Anthony Sullivan. I feel like I've made a good choice switching over from Mornings on 2. Sorry to Sal, Tori, Steve and
Dave--you guys felt like old friends but never gave me that sham-wow factor. Oh and will you guys ever be granted an interview with Speidi? Nope--that exclusive will always go to Al Roker. In case you missed it, Al wasted no time firing shots: Are you guys proud of yourselves? That's some great television.

sidenote: Is Jermaine gay? Vicky asked me this morning and I wasn't sure.
